Compassionate Action Zoom Workshop
July 26, 2022, 5:30 - 7:00 pm (PST)

This workshop will consider: “How can we promote compassionate action?”

Questions that may be addressed include:

  1. Shall we encourage groups to open their meetings, at least once a month, with a “self-awareness check-in” durng which members respond briefly to: “How have you been working on becoming a better person”?

  2. On those days they do not conduct a self-awareness check-in, shall we encourage groups to open their meetings with one minute of silence during which members pray, meditate, or reflect?

  3. Is “the moral humanity movement” an effective frame? Does this movement exist? Or is it “emergent”? Shall we promote its development? Or, as an alternative, what about a “moral movement”?

  4. Is the Americans for Humanity website valuable? If so, how valuable? How can we improve it?

  5. How can we nurture compassionate action?

Facilitated by Penn Garvin, the workshop will open with Wade Lee Hudson, Rhonda Magee, and Rev. Dorsey Blake discussing these issues, followed by an open discussion with participants.

The 12 other confirmed participants are Yahya Abdal-Aziz (may leave early), Dan Brook, Hector Garcia, Steve Gerritson, Roma Guy, Mary Hudson, Roger Marsden, Bernhard Possert, Jed Riffe, Robert Scarlett, R. E. "Ari" Thompson (will arrive late and only listen), Larry Walker.

This open inquiry will enable participants to get to know each other better, address questions and loose ends, refine, consolidate and plan expansion. At the conclusion, we’ll consider convening a follow-up session.

Prior to the workshop, participants may want to read one or more of these documents:
