Our Worldview

Primary Goals

If we undo or control society’s divisive conditioning, we can better unite, increase our effectiveness, and grow caring, egalitarian communities. Countless individuals and organizations relieve suffering and promote justice, but this compassionate humanity community is fragmented and afflicted with competitive hyper-individualism. If we affirm shared principles, we can overcome these problems and build a unified, broad-based, independent movement similar to yet more potent than the labor, civil rights, and women’s movements.

We can learn to care for ourselves to better care for others. We can adopt new ways of working together and help each other with self-development and spiritual growth. We can welcome praise as icing on the cake rather than crave it. We can work together, respecting each other’s infinite worth. Rather than making wealth, power, and status our primary goal, we can use them to achieve a higher end.

As a society, we can meet basic needs, ensure safety and security, prevent the violation of civil and human rights, provide everyone a voice in affairs that affect them, grow supportive communities, and empower people to be all they can be. Moreover, we can create new structures that solidify these improvements.

Describing this proposed movement and its mission is a work in progress. For now, we suggest this mission:

Encourage everyone to

  • Replace oppressive domination and submission with compassionate cooperation.

  • Serve humanity, the environment, and life itself.

  • Cultivate caring, egalitarian communities grounded in mutual empowerment.

The main methods we propose are to:

Encourage everyone to:

  • Dedicate themselves to serving humanity, the environment, and life itself.

  • Unlearn or control oppressive social conditioning, especially the desire to dominate and the willingness to submit for personal gain.

  • Support each other as equals with self-development, community service, and political action.

  • Grow caring, egalitarian communities that address the whole person and the whole society and cultivate synergistic, mutually reinforcing change throughout society.

By “life itself,” we refer to the invisible creative force that energizes and stabilizes the universe and enables living objects to reproduce.

Our hope is that an inclusive organizing committee will pursue these ideas, modifying them as needed. "Grow Compassion, Build Community, Change the System: A Declaration for Action" envisions a possible implementation scenario.

We welcome suggested changes in this language or these ideas. Let's work together to advance justice and compassion, build a more equitable world, and create a better future for all.

Compassionate Action
